A new way to compete

Boom!

Today’s update is all about new ways to play, reimplementing two features, inviting you to the freshly launched Discord server, and a very important matter about Yogurting itself. But first, let’s dive into what’s new in…

The Deathmatch Update!

This update introduces support for custom game modes, starting with the first one: Deathmatch. It’s a fast-paced PvP mode that drops players into one of two maps and challenges them to prove who’s the best.
To join the action, simply talk to one of the designated NPCs to create or join a Deathmatch lobby. Choose your weapons and get ready for the fight!
The rules are simple: eliminate as many players as possible before time runs out. Make sure to take advantage of power-ups by killing monsters to gain the upper hand.
Lobby leaders can customize match settings, including map selection, match duration, and even the daylight cycle.
After playing a number of matches, you’ll be able to check your stats and gain insight into your performance.
So gear up, hop on the bus, and fight for 1st place!
Yogurting hasn’t been this competitive in a long time!

Next up: Guideboards are back

Another important feature of the game is back baby! With guideboards, you can easily find which episodes and quests are available and where you can find them. It’s possible to sort episodes by grade and view detailed information.
Thanks to them, you’ll never get lost again!

Discord & client translation

The Octet Discord server is now live and has become the central hub for the project and the community. Joining the server ensures you stay in touch with both Yogurting and Octet, and gives you a place to ask questions or get help if you need it.

English client translations

Work on the English translation of the Yogurting client has officially begun.   To make contributing simple and accessible, I’ve created a Discord bot, Anna, which allows anyone to help translate the game UI images directly from within the server.
Translation work was made possible thanks to one of my newly made friends, DecodedFinn, who’s currently programming a bunch of Yogurting-related tools.

For developers

Documentation is still out of date, so here’s how you can add new features to your server:

Deathmatch lobby

Players can join a gamemode lobby by talking to an NPC. Example of Anna, standing next to the goal post on Estiva Ground (ID 1).

Guideboard

Add a guideboard to allow players to check available episodes and quests.

Plans for this year

Alongside adding new features and episodes to keep gameplay fresh while gradually restoring all features, I’m planning a bit of spring cleaning for the project.
The main upcoming changes include support for SQLite databases and releasing one-click executable version of Octet for Windows.

This will make server setup much easier, without installing extra software on your machine.

So, keep your gear ready, and see you in the game.
